Getting Started

Placement at the Centre is determined through meeting your child and ascertaining the appropriate learning environment for them. An initial appointment will thus need to be set up for your child to come in and meet with us. Parents or guardians wishing to go ahead with booking an initial appointment at the Centre are requested to contact us via email to schedule a date and time for this. For security reasons, personal details will be required to proceed with booking the initial appointment. A questionnaire will be provided to gain a history of your child’s development. Any therapeutic or assessment-based reports available may also be shared with us at this stage to ensure that we have a comprehensive understanding of your child in preparation for meeting with them.

At the initial appointment, your child will see members of the Management Team (Trish Brodrick, Centre Director, Sarah Keates, Centre Manager or Tayla Thorpe, Centre Occupational Therapist) for an hour-long session. Please note that the initial appointment at the Centre is not a formal or diagnostic assessment but rather a session with you and your child to identify and discuss the main areas of difficulty. Recommendations will be made during the appointment with regard to the appropriate intervention for your child and the environment at the Centre that caters to their developmental needs. Please note that no report is provided following the appointment.

Going forward from the initial appointment, parents or guardians are encouraged to email their wishes to proceed with any placement recommendations made during the appointment. Please note that depending on what services your child needs to access within the Centre, they may need to be placed on a waiting list before they can commence sessions. Speed of placement will depend on the type of setting they require. It is important to note that once a decision has been made on an intervention approach, it is essential to attend therapy consistently with the chosen therapies for an extended period of time, in order to obtain a realistic view of the rate of progress.
