Pre Grade R/Grade R and Grade 1-3

The Centre offers a Pre-Grade R/Grade R class as well as a Grade 1-3 class. The adult to learner ratio in these classes is approximately 1 adult to 4 learners which allows for more facilitation and support than what is provided in a mainstream classroom; this also means that individual targets can be worked on in order to prepare the learners for a larger learning environment. Our graded classes are designed to help bridge the gap between the Centre and a small mainstream learning environment.

The CAPS curriculum is followed, and the tasks and activities set in the curriculum are broken down or modified to ensure that each learner is able to grasp the concepts and information to the best of their ability. When working through the curriculum, each learner follows a pace that is comfortable and appropriate for them to ensure that no important information is missed out or overlooked while also making sure that they are always stimulated and learning. Teaching in our classes is done using many different methods to ensure a high frequency of repetition and the acquisition and generalisation of skills and concepts. The classroom environment is fun and exciting, drawing learners in and increasing engagement. A high level of positive reinforcement is used to ensure that learners are motivated to learn and participate.

Please note, each applicant will undergo an assessment at the Centre for Play and Learning to ensure the suitability of the Pre Grade R/Grade R and Grade 1-3 programmes for that particular learner.
